When it comes to the question of who determines the dormitory rooms arrangement. There are different ideas. Some people like to choose their own roommates, some prefer to do it by the university. Like everything else, different people have different views on them. Personally, I prefer the latter because I think that the choice has more advantages.
First, the main reason why I feel that university should assign a student to share a room with another is superior is that the method above mentioned does benefit the university more with the aspect of management on room and board. For instance, when the university decides the roommate, it is more likely to be familiar with on –campus student distribution, thus bringing to convenience to the ordinary and systematic management of the university.
Second, another reason why I secretly champion the opinion is that I believe that doing that way really does impartial for the students to some extent. Some inactive students always complain that they tend to be ignored in almost all events so that they have to accept what they do not really want, while the better one is always picked up in advance by those active students.
However, as the English proverb says “ a coin has two sides “ I must confess that those who take the opposite view are partly right because there are also some advantages when students choose roommates by their own. For example, people are inclined to choose those who have the same interest and characteristics as their roommates. As a result, they are more likely to communicate with each other.
To sum up, all the factors mentioned above which determined me to prefer the university as the decision-maker on assigning the roommate weigh so heavily that the other consideration like choosing one’s own roommate is as dust in the balance.
