What occupation will you choose after your graduation?
What occupation will you choose after your graduation? This is a good question for all the students nowadays. Some children would like to choose a job which is similar to their parents’, while others want to try different kinds of job. Accordingly, problem concerning whether children should take their parents’ work as their own job has aroused wide discussion. From my point of view, I highly recommend a student to choose those jobs that are similar to their parents’, and my reasons can be listed as following.
First and foremost, children can get invaluable suggestions from their parents if they choose to undertake what their parents chose to do. With huge amount of social experience accumulated from their career, parents are able to help their children in many aspects. Indispensable profession suggestions will be given to children whenever they are in need, which may help them overcome many obstacles they meet in their career development. For example, a friend of mine, Mr. Liu, wants to become a reporter after he graduate, while his father is working for the local newspaper. He was told that it is not necessarily to major in media if he want to take reporter as a job because of the job specialization in that occupation. On the contrary, a law major student, for example, may better help him to understand some policies better.
Secondly, children who follow the path on which their parents have stepped on before will benefit from their parents’ social network. All those friends that your parents have made in their career will be an excellent choice for you. Since in the highly competitive job market nowadays, a strong recommendation from a person who has been working in the related position for many years can make things much easier. Supposing that two student students apply for a job, one is recommended by a famous person in a multinational corporation, while the other has nothing, which one will you choose?
Last but not least, choose an occupation different from your parents may out of impusiveness impulsiveness. Because they can hardly get to know the essence of that job, the choice may be lack of consideration, which can damage the career development of the children if it happens to be the one that he or she doesn’t into it. What’s more, it can be a waste of time.
To conclude, personally speaking, there is no doubt that choose a job that are similar to your parents will minimize the risk that you will regret for the choice you have made. Furthermore, the assistance and guidance from parents also play an important role in children’s future development. Accordingly, similarity should be the first priority.
