We can usually learn from people whose views we share and from people whose views contradict our own, but there

We can usually learn from people whose views we share and from people whose views contradict our own, but there is an important difference between them. The effect on us comes from the former and the one on us from the latter work at different espect and different stage. The effect on us comes from the former works on our will at the stage of preparation while the latter works on our action at the stage of real action.

People whose views we share can dispel our doubt, strenthen our confidence and encourage our minds. For instance, when a famous linguisic professor, Xing Fuyi, raised his assumption on one of the syntax, which comes out "the Central of Small Sentence Theory" at last, he suffered a lots of doubt from many other qualified experts, which almost made him give it up at the beginning, but he was very lucky to be encouraged by another qualified linguistician, Zhao Jinming, who said that "I feel the same way". It was the simple words that inspeled him to go ahead. At last, he raised the famous syntax theory. So without professor Zhao, Mr. Xing would not explore continously. Without the words, "I feel the same way", the Central of Small Sentence Theory would not appear publicly. Likewise, if the biologists who produced clone sheep, "Dolly", were not supported by others at the stage of assumption, we would probably never see "Dolly". Therefore, the people whose views we share can dispel our doubt, inspel us to go ahead even to succeed.

Meanwhile, we can also learn from people whose views contradict our own because they can prevent us from getting into "dead alley" and pointed out the right direction that we should go. For example, at the stage of Mr. Xing`s research, he went astray only to research individual abnormal grammatical phenomenon which confused public greatly. It was advantageous that one of his colleague immediately pointed out his mistake and suggested him try to find a general conclusion which can explain all the syntax. It changed the train of Mr. Xing`s thought so successfully that he found the right way and his theory appeared. Hence, we can also learn from people whose views contradict our own when we really take actions. On the contrary, without them at the stage of our real action, we might waste much efforts vainly finally.
