Transportation problem is one of the most serious problems facing the governments around the world. To put more money on transportation is a kind of solution. However, there are different voices about whether the money should be spent on improving roads and highways or should be spent on public transportation such as buses, trains and subways. As far as I am concerned, I believe more money should be spent on public transportation. My arguments for this point are listed as follows.
The main reason why I think more money should be spent on public transportation is that public transportation will solve most peoples traffic problems. If our public transportation could satisfy peoples needs, then many people will not drive their cars or take taxi to the place they want to go to. Thus there will be less traffic tools on the roads and the traffic jam will be less. So, put more money on public transportation will lighten the transportation problems to a great extent.
What is also worth noticing fact is that improving roads and highways often introduce more cars, trucks on them. Everyone wants to drive on the good roads. Therefore, traffic jams occur no matter where they are, on the old roads and on the improved ones. Transportation problems do not get much improved.
In a word, public transportation can reduce the vehicles on the road. Taking into account of all factors mentioned above, we may reach the conclusion that the governments should spend more money on the public transportation than on the roads or high ways.
