Going to university is a big step in every teenage life. Students want to be more independent and mature, they try to make their own decisions. First-year students who decide to study abroad have to choose their dwellings. Some of them prefer to live in campus housing such as dormitories however other students choose to live in off-campus housing such as apartments. It is my belief that both options have their pros and cons.
First of all, living in dormitories can be a good opportunity to meet new people from all over the world and make friends. Undoubtedly, it is a cheaper option and more economical than living on your own in an apartment. You do not have to waste your time looking for an accommodation near your college instead you can spend this time studying for exams. Another reason for living in campus housing is that it is really close to university and you have access to many useful facilities such as libraries and a canteen. What is important you have also a free Wi-Fi in your dormitory. On the other hand, students complain about lack of freedom and obeying several rules such as quiet hours.
Living in apartments also have advantages and disadvantages. You are definitely more independent and self-contained and it is your choice with who you would like to share the apartment. You will definitely have more privacy and freedom. What is significant about this option is that you can choose when you want to study or go to sleep, you do not have to obey any rules. Having your own apartment is an option for students who want to have a peaceful place to study. Unfortunately the costs of rent are much higher. You can also have problems with finding an apartment near your university. Traveling to your college can take you lots of valuable time.
In conclusion, living in campus housing such as dormitories or living in off-campus housing such as apartments have their drawbacks and benefits. Every student has his own personal preferences and knows which of those two options will suit him the best.
