There are different kinds of people in this world, and as the saying goes ‘to each his own’. While some students prefer to study in groups, others prefer to study alone depending on their personalities and family structures. Personally, I prefer to study alone and I will discuss the reasons for this preference.
I am the only child of my parents, born to them after thirteen years. Thus, I have no siblings and my parents are quiet, retired senior citizens. All my life I have had the luxury of being able to study peacefully in my room and have no idea what it is like to have noisy siblings around. Friends of mine have somehow developed the ability to shut out their brothers’ or sisters’ constant chatter, though I cannot see myself being able to do the same. Thus, when I have tried to study with friends, a whisper between two of them would cause me to plug my ears with my fingers and shoot them dirty looks, whereas, someone else would not seem bothered by them at all.
Moreover, as a person, I give my studies everything I have and try to make the best use of my ‘study time’ and I do not tolerate distractions. I believe that a better way to go about things would be to study alone and then go out with one’s friends later in the day.
Though studying with people can help a person view a problem from different angles, it can also cause inter group conflict or even spoon feeding and the best way for a person to learn is to research on his or her own.
Thus, in conclusion, I would like to state that both methods have their pros and cons, though personally I prefer to study alone for the reasons stated above.
