The true value of a civilization relies not only in its artistic creations, but also in its scientific accomplishments. A

The true value of a civilization relies not only in its artistic creations, but also in its scientific accomplishments. A certain civilization contains both folk culture accumulated in the history of the society in which the civilization was formed and modern technological progress and scientific achievements of the society. We can hardly claim that which is more a respresentive of the civilization, since the two respresent two distinct aspects, respectively.

First, the artistic creations of a civilization reflect its level of artistic accomplishments, which is achieved by the people who has been creating the civilization for a long time, and maybe, for ever. It is proper for us to claim that the artistic creations actually demonstrate the value of the civilization, more or less, well or poorly, since they serve as a mirror from which we can find the images that compose the history of the civilization, the criteria of the civilization to value itself, the belief people foming the civilization hold, and so forth. For example, we can see a lot from a famous drawing made in Qing Period in China, called "scence of a market on the bank of Qing River", in this drawing, the paintist draw in detail to the extentthat we can see every corner in the market, and the bargins between customers and the businessmen, also the people who are reading, talking in boats. A hot market scence is demonstrated, and what can we find from it? The paint tells us one importatant thing that ancient chinese had progressed a high-developed civilization when they entered Qing Period, furthermore, in that period, the true value of the society is the prosperity as demonstrated in the paint, or to say in other words, the people in that period began to value the capitalism, which was hard to imagine in the past.

Second, scientific accomplishments and technological achievements which demonstrates the intelligence and hard labouring of the people are representatives of value of a civilization, too. The scientific accomplishments of western people in past hundreds of years excellently show the high level of the civilization in west, which is characteristic of great progress in mathematics, physics, and medical technology. For example, in that period, western people brought forward the method "calculus", which is a breakthrough in mathematics science, improving other fields of science greatly. During the same time, Sir Newton declared the three basic principles in classic mechanics, which is the base of modern physical system, and enhanced the study of astrology a lot. These accomplishments in scientific field are all specific demonstration of civilization.

To sum up, both artistic creations and scientific accomplishments benefit the value of a civilization, although in different way. When accessing a civilization, we should take the both seriously, otherwise, we cannot make a sound accessment on the value of a certain civilization.
