There is a well known quote that states that "It takes a village to raise a child". This is true with the education of young people. I believe it is extremely important that both parents and communities be involved in their local schools. Schools are the heart of a community. Everyone does not attend church and if they do, there are so many faiths and denominations within those faiths. It is the law that every child be educated and in most communities you will find that the majority of the students are attending local schools. Local schools are the heart of communities.
Professional educators have the responsibility of teaching the students for several hours a day. It is important for students to participate in enrichment outside of the schools. Parents can activiely supervise and assist in there child's homework. They can take a proactive step in recognizing the academic weakness of their child and can address the issue before it is reflected on a report card. Teachers are dealing classrooms with more students in them than they can give an adequate amount of attention to.
Because of overpopulated classrooms, every students needs may not be addressed. Teachers can be run thin by the mountain of responsibilites that they carry. With parents and the community as a whole being more involved with the local schools gaps in the education of the young people can be filled. The community can run after school programs and tutorials.
Parents and the community being more involved in the local schools also adds a sense of accountability. Teachers can not pass out undeserved grades, or not challenge students when they are being held accountable for the students that they are teaching. Good enough will not be good enough. The students, teachers as well as the administration will have to step up to a higher standard. The involvement will also benefit in a partnership. The goal of that partnership is the best education for the students and through team work, that can be accomplished.
Lastly, community and school spirit as well as a decrease in poor conduct will be positive effects of parent and community involvement. With the community and the schools working together, grades will improve and with the schools as the heart of community will flourish. Students, parents, teachers and so forth will be proud of their school. Therefore, parents and communities must be involved in the local schools.Read more
