I disagree with the topic statement. Hero who gains the reputation based on facts or true behaviors would be always highly recognized by the society. Hero who gained the reputation majorly based on media manipulation would not be hero after the examination by the history. I would discuss my opinions and list examples in the paragraphs below.
The hero who will always be our hero for their heroic reputations based on true facts and behaviors. Bill Clinton, the living man, is my hero as he improved U.S economy and gained U.S interest through skillful diplomatic interaction with various nations. It is also the fact that Bill was involved into scandal; however, the scandal didn't decrease my positive perception on Bill Clinton as my recognition for Bill is based on his contributions to U.S. and international society. A living hero will always be my hero as long as their reputation is majorly from true facts, not from media manipulation.
Beatles is another good example. Beatles were very popular and recognized as a hero group among fans. The reason of that Beatles was so popular and is still very popular based on their contribution to bring new style and structure for pop songs. Beatles is the group which created the modern pop songs. Therefore, although the group was involved into several negative news, the group is always their fans' hero. The reputation for true hero should not be diminished by negative events.
People would argue that it is not possible for a society to regard any living man or woman as a hero because the reputation for the hero can be diminished because of media scrutiny. I would like to argue the statement is incorrect. The hero whose reputation is gained through media manipulation cannot be hero anymore once the true facts or behaviors are discovered by media. For example, Hitler, the German leader before and during world war II was manipulated media to inform himself as a great hero and leader in front of the public. He was intended to be recognized as a hero as the reputation can enable him to motivate his people to fight for him, not for country. Given the fact that he was intended to make himself as a hero, once his true intention and behaviors were discovered by the media, he cannot be a hero anymore.
In conclusion, the hero who will always be the hero as long as their reputation are based on true facts or behaviors; the hero whose reputation are gained through media intervention cannot be recognized as a hero anymore once the true facts are discovered. According to the previous discussion and examples, I disagree with the topic statement that it is no longer possible to regard any living man or woman as a hero.
