Arts is more important Score: 4.5 October 15th, 2017 by ZXY

The debate over whether arts is more important than science has been raging for some time. Some deem that science such mathematics makes a difference on students’ intellectual development. However, I would say the exact opposite---for three reasons.

First, studying arts such as history and literature will improve our critical thinking. Different from science, there is no correct answers for arts subject. So everyone can express his/her own idea and it will be seen as right as long as reasonable. Imagine you are having a literature class and you are asked to analyze what emotion the author expressed, you can say he was happy because the weather he describe was wonderful or sad for the dark clothes color.

Another factor that should be taken into account is that arts plays a big part in emotional development. We learn arts to learn about the world and establish our values. If only science study, an emotionless monster will ensue. That means, you will become the one cares only about numbers and formula instead of others and the world.

A third argument that we should not neglect is that arts helps us to learn about the world. We learn history to learn about the culture of different countries and literature to explore the deep side of human. Science study may be dropped off when you grow older, but arts study should be a lifelong process and a good vehicle for deeply realizing yourself, even man.

Finally, arts study will give us more enjoyment. Numbers and formula are the cornerstone of science. It is no wonder a boring thing that facing them all day around. But for arts, you can meet different characters and see various scenes on the classes, maybe the old compete with the shark or the Depression in the 1920s.

Therefore, critical thinking, emotional development, self-exploration and enjoyment are all compelling justification for studying arts such as history and literature is more important than studying science.
