The common deeds of a personare motivated and also limited by the values he holds. Some values held by aperson are as a result of a rational choice. A person decides to take a particular stand when he finds a reason in doing so. But it may not be the case always.
Taking a persons food habbits into consideration some people would like to be strictly vegetarians. he prefers to be so because he feels that eating non-veg food he is inflicting great pain to some animals.he thinks that this is rationale. He mentions the above reason when questioned about his food habits. But in contrary there are some groups of people, for example Brahmins in Hindu society who do not eat food which is non- vegetarian. Most of them adopt this habit, not as a result of rational choice but because of their customs and culture.
Some people hold values because of prejudice towards of some habits or deeds. A person prefers to be a non-alcholic because he hates alcholics who mess around causing disturbance to others. He may not actually be looking at the illeffects of it to the health. Same may be the case with some non-smokers.
So the values held by the man are a blend of decisions taken as a result of rational choice, ethinic values, basic ethics, compulsions and prjudices.
