The author asserts that a powerful business leader has a greater opportunity to influence the community then any government official.
The author asserts that a powerful business leader has a greater opportunity to influence the community then any government official. I agree with the author in so far that the business leader has got a definite capabilty to influence the nation as a whole. However, in my view the business leaders are restricted on the kind of influence and the amount of influence it can make as compared to top government officials.
Firstly, any top business leader has got a definite clout or power to influence the community in some way or other. For example, Narayan Murthy revolutionised the software industry in India. Today India is one of the top software developing countries in the world. Dirubhai Ambani changed the ordinary people views on stock markets and so forth. But all are restricted to the subject they are in. At maximum they can change the lifes of not more 10, 000 families. By this way, yes they are more influential then some government official but definetly not more then the top brass of the government.
Secondly, The top government officials like President, Primi Minister and ministers makes decisions not just for a some particular number of people but for everyone in the country. They lay down companies policies, define long term plans and so forth. They make plans for building roads, hospitals, gardens, schools, temples which influence the community as a whole. An articulate, thoughtful, furistic, developement oriented prime minister will definetly influence the path the country takes whereas a leader who belives in blood-shed, violence, mass destruction, building weapons will self destruct his country.
Lastly, more then a top business leader or a government official, people who are successful and leaders in their own field, influences the community and nation in their own way. History suggests that most top influential people who changed the course of a nation or a community where not either a top business leader or an government official but where leaders in their own choosen filed. For example, Mahatma Gandhi changed the way indians thought about britishers ruling India before 1947. Similarly, Mother Teresa influnced lot of people in the community and changed the way people looked towards the needy.
In Sum, the top business leaders definetly influences the countries decisions and are more influential then most of the low rank government officials but the top brass government officials ultimately makes the decisions which influences not just a particular community but a country as a whole.
