The argument is definately reasonably and convincing. However, there might be certain reasons where written records could score over the video camera.
A video camera gives you an account of something as it happenned,in its true form.It does not downplay anything,it does not embellish or exagerrate,it does not leave out details. The same could not be said about written records.writings are prone to errors..humans jus operate a video camera wheras,-written records are dependant on humans for its creation, and humans have strong opinions, beleifs and all these emotions tend to come through in writings. In this sence a video would definately be a more accurate and convincing form of documentation.
A video camera never forms opinions of what it is potraying,-but when we read an atricle,we only read someone else`s interpretation of an incident. We might not agree with it,and written reacords are not always objective.Consider a report on a tennis match between Pete Sampras and marcelo Rios played in the US.If Marcelo Rios lost, then the papers in the US would probably be quite critical bout him.In contrary the news papers in South America would probably credit marcelo for putting up a good fight against such a great tennis player. Now the same match could recieve two completely different reports depending on the people, and the place.written records are affected by emotions like patriotism, and loyalty and very often these factors overpower the accuracy.
Moreover, anything we see for real is definately more powerful and convincing than anything we read. When we view something,we see the pictures fr ourselves and are not left to imagine it.We may realise the true impact of something only when we see it.For example,if there was a flight crash ,the entire details of the crash might be in the newspapers. Why the crash took place, the location, how many people passed away, the whole story. But it still would not be as powerful as seeing the ruins of the flight on T.V,seeing the landscape, the map of the crash site, maybe the visual images created to explain how the crash took place.Another example would be if u were interested in visiting some foreign country say South Africa, and You wanted to find out more about the country to see if it would be worth visiting. In this case,You wouldn`t by a South African`s atricle acclaiming the climate, and tourist facilities in South Africa!.You would much rather see pictures, watch documentries on South Africa on T.V.
However i do feel there might be one point where writings score over records too. When we read a written document,it makes us think. We might already have a formed opinion in mind, but it makes up critique that opinion by showing us someone elses. It gives us the views of people,-the writers, the publics, and enables us to debate our own opinion before accepting something. The world is a collage os different cultures, people and languages. It shows how how people in different parts of the world think, and feel bout something, and brings the world together, which i feel is essential for the growth of mankind.
To sum it up,i feel though video cameras do provide a more accurate and convincing record of events,we need written records to bring the world closer. The ideal combination would be both together.
