In Japan, where I currently live, some people think that it is not essential that the number of students in a class is small. However, I definitely prefer the idea that hiring a lot of teachers to reduce the number of students in a class. To give the most rational explanations to my answers, I will present some clear reasons and examples through my experience below.
First of all, if a class becomes small, students can speak to their teacher more. Through talking with their teacher, they can realize that their views are somewhat limited because their teacher has different opinions and views. By noticing that, they can also broaden their horizons. To take my example, when I was in primary school, I took English class. My classmates and I discussed a group work in the class. At first, there were a lot of opinions and conflicts, but our teacher, Mr. Tanaka, gave us the advice to compile good points of each idea and made a presentation. By doing that, we got the highest grade because our presentation was argued from various aspects. If we had not listened Mr. Tanaka's opinion, our presentation might have been terrible. As the example shows, if a class becomes small, students can widen their perspectives.
In addition, close relationship with teachers makes the students feel motivated to study harder. Referring back to my example above, I study English very hard in primary school. When I entered the school, I was not good at English, especially listening. Thus, I took dictation and do shadowing in order to acquire correct intonation and pronunciation every day. However, my English skill did not improve, so I almost gave up sometimes. At such time, Mr. Tanaka always encouraged me and taught me a good way to study. Thanks to him, I could restart to study hard. Now, I can read, write, speak, and listen English well. If he had not helped me at the time, I could not have used English well. As the example illustrates, close relationship with teachers makes the students feel motivated to study harder.
In conclusion, for the reasons mentioned above, I absolutely agree with the idea that hiring a lot of teachers to reduce the number of students in a class.
