Famous people's personal lives fascinate many common people. In my opinion, broadcasting such as television and publishes such as magazines pay too much attention to their personal lives. I feel this way for two reasons, which I explore in this essay.
To begin with, public figures' private lives are not as important in many cases as many mass media broadcast. What is important for politicians, members of parlament, entrepreneurs and CEOs of big companies is their policy, vision or buisiness performance. Focusing solely or excessively on their personal lives lead to wrong impression about their competetiveness. Everytime I talk with my younger sister, who are at first-year student at senior high school, about politics in Japan, I get surprized at how much she is succeptible to the superficial impression of politicians on television. As this example demonstrates, it should be noted that broadcasting companies and publication companies should be responsible for this. Needless to say, personal lives of influencial people are not the most critical and worthwhile information for society.
Secondly, overwhelming exposure of their privacy do harm to their personal life. My own experience demonstrates this point clearly. When I was a junior student at collage at Tokyo, I was a part-time tutor at a celebrity family. One day, a rumor of the hasband's affair splead somehow. Although I am not sure whether the gossip was true or not, this surely dameged their life, especially the children's school life.
In conclusion, it seems natural to conclude that media pay too much attention to famous peoples' personal lives. It would be sensible and reasonable to pay more attention to other crucial issues.Read more
