GRE Essay Topic 190 - Present your perspective on the issue below, "A nation should require all its students to study the same national curriculum until they enter college rather than allow schools in different parts of the nation to determine which academic courses to offer."
School’s curriculum is a topic that have been long argued at many countries of the world
School’s curriculum is a topic that have been long argued at many countries of the world. The best one seems not to turn out yet nevertheless. That nations should require all its students to study the same national curriculum, rather than allow schools to determine their academic courses a fact that should be successful most of the time, but one that cannot be fully support due to the “all or nothing” condition.
Given that with the same national curriculum all the student form that country will have the same knowledge and experiences. It can be assume that they will also have the same opportunities while applying to college or going abroad to study. This is one of the best aspect of unifying the courses at schools because it will lead to a more unified country.
Moreover, this politic, will reduce the felling of difference between young people. Superiority and/or inferiority felling, for being form this or that school will not longer exist either. And by consequence the now popular “school vs. school street fights” could be 100% eliminated. However, reaching the conclusion that unifying the national curriculum have several positive aspects, is not the same as assuming that schools in different parts of the nation should not be able at all to determine which academic courses to offer.
Being located at different parts means that the quantity or type of students will differ one form an other. School’s should be able to decide how to approach this national curriculum by determining which courses to offer. Reaching this point is also good to name that a small degree of freedom should also be given to schools to add extra classes if they consider it necessary.
The examples above all support the idea that one of best national curriculum could be one that have a certain number of required courses (i.e history, literature, religion), and another certain number of extra subjects (i.e foreign language, sports, music) to teach if schools consider it proper for their students. Always keeping an average standard at every school in the nation. Thanks.
