Replacing books in the library that are more in demand

GRE Essay Topic 857 - In the Bayhead Public Library, books that are rarely borrowed continue to take up shelf space year after year, while people who want to read a recent novel frequently find that the library's only copy is checked out. Clearly, the library's plan to replace books that are borrowed no more than once a year with sufficient copies of more recent books will solve this problem. The protest we have heard since this plan was made public has come from a small, and thus unrepresentative, group of some thirty people and so should therefore be ignored. Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument.

Replacing books in the library that are more in demand

Here, the author is discussing about the books taking place in library. He assumes that ,mostly people are interested into reading newer books. He claims that older books should be replaced by recent books with sufficient copies and small protests against this action should be ignored.

Library is for everyone.people from all ages come to library with an expectation to find books they are looking for.Younger kids enjoy stories to rhymes whereas adults enjoy literature, history, science, cooking, religion and much more. The assumption of author about replacing books not been read for is a year is totally wrong. All the books in a library from older to newer hold their own importance. If only people were just interested in newer edition of novels, then what made the need of science and fiction books to be written?

Most of the people come to library with a mindset to have access for all types and genres of books.Limiting books on the basis of not being read is not fair. The reason of a small protest is enough to drop the idea right away.

The protest can be small because maybe community around Bayhead public library is not aware of books being removed. Or maybe perhaps the community is compromised of lesser people. The fact even thirty people,e protested should be enough for any public library to not take this action.

Its my personal experience to be able to read some amazing books which were not too popular and not read as much. So,i truly think that, just a span of a year is enough to decide if the book is not worth taking space in the library.

A public library should never ignore the feedback for their community, small or large, because they are the ones, for whom these libraries are made. All the books should be kept in library and given importance.Replacing books that not read for a year is not logical and demolishes the spectrum and variety of books being offered to everyone.
