Theory before data

September 13th, 2010

Data and evidence play an extremely critical role in our world. They are required in the crime scene when finding the criminal responsible for his or her crimes, they are required for scientific purposes, (i.e. making medicine and technological inventions), health (i.e. psychology) and for reporting a case of abuse (usually sexual). Theorizing before conducting research (in any given area) to gather data and evidence is indeed a grave mistake.

After School Programs

September 10th, 2010

After school programs are critical for students in the future. They help the process of college applications go much more smoothly. To eliminate a certain field of programs would be setting a limit on the students. Performing arts programs are just as important as the computer technology programs because if one is eliminated (in this case, the performing arts programs) then the students who are more fit in joining performing arts programs have no options. Therefore, it is essential to have a variety of options for students as much as possible.

Library Books

September 6th, 2010

The library is a great place for book lovers because it has a wide variety of books from a diverse field of authors and genres. It is wonderful to have access to a wide range of different novels, but time is inadequate to read all of the books that are available. In addition, some books are not so popular as others. In the case of Bayhead Public Library, even though certain books should be replaced consistently (especially when people are not showing any interest in them), these books should be kept in storage where librarians can have easy access to them just in case someone may make a request out of the blue.

Experiencing Pain

September 6th, 2010

Men and women share an extensive amount of differences from each other. This also includes techniques on how to handle pain (in this case, wisdom tooth extraction). Women, being the weaker gender, respond more negatively to pain whereas the men have an easier time hiding their pain. However, when it comes to prescribing pain medication, all options should be considered regardless of gender.

Recognizing Public Figures

September 3rd, 2010

For public figures such as celebrities and politicians, it is normal to get a certain amount of attention (maybe a little too much at times). Almost all of us love being recognized and being popular; but at the same time it makes us wish we had our privacy. Politicians who are running for a high position in the government and campaigning themselves need to make themselves known by visiting peoples' houses door to door. As celebrities (actors, actresses and singers) become more popular, we can see more images of them in magazines and gossip columns that talk about where they go shopping, the kind of cosmetics they use (for the ladies), and especially their love lives if they have a significant other (a boyfriend or girlfriend, or a fiance'). So it is natural for such individuals to expect a loss of some privacy in their lives.

Visiting the Dentist

September 2nd, 2010

The dentist's office naturally make people feel fearful. The minute we step in, the smell wafting in the air and the loud sound of the drill is more than enough to give us butterflies in our stomachs. As we are sitting and waiting, we hope that the dentist will never call our names. In order to make individuals visits to the dentists more comfortable, a solution must be made not just for the men, but for the women as well.

Good Competition?

September 1st, 2010

A certain amount of competition and desire to succeed is essential in everyday life. However, if students are just focusing solely on achieving good grades, they will end up focusing on the grade itself than having a great learning experience. Their perspective on learning is shortened, even blinded because of their overly ambitious spirit. It is undeniable that good grades are important in order to graduate high school and be accepted into an elite university, and later get a career what one learns from his or her classes also holds great significance.

Good Food Is Important

August 28th, 2010

Food is the one ingredient that brings families, friends, and co-workers together. When spending time with the people we know and love, we always suggest to grab a bite to eat. Through the act of eating together, we become closer to each other. But at the same time, we all become selective when choosing a restaurant according to our preferences and the price range. The quality of the food and its price are especially important for people who are working to support their families, which is why catering companies should be flexible in their price ranges, as well as the quality and quantity of the food choices offered.

High-Profile Awards good or bad?

August 24th, 2010

The purpose of distributing awards is to allow the public to recognize those few people who have made a wonderful achievement that can be of good to themselves and the community that they live in. Awards motivate individuals to do their best in everything that they do, and gives them a sense of seeing the fruits of their labor. The more prestigious the award, the harder the requirements become in order to receive it. However, it does not mean that people will strive to obtain it in dishonest gain.

Positive vs. Negative Feedback

August 21st, 2010

In order to improve ourselves, the presence of feedback is very critical. Negative feedback comes in a variety of forms. It can be verbal (i.e. rebuke and discipline), it can be physically painful (i.e. sickness), or it can be harmful (i.e. smoking, drinking, drugs). For example, when writing an essay for school, one always writes a rough draft, re-reads his or her written work, makes any fixes necessary and makes a final draft before turning the assignment in for a grading. When someone gives us compliments (one example of positive feedback), we become happy and it is forgotten later on. But when given a negative feedback, it is easier to remember for a longer period of time. While we are unhappy about it, it also helps us to think about why we received such a negative response and attempt to not make the same mistake twice. As a result, we become better people and improve and excel in our work as well.

Breakfast or no breakfast at school?

August 20th, 2010

People agree that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but have difficulty in eating their morning meals on a regular basis. Teachers remind their students that a good breakfast is always beneficial, especially when they have a test approaching. Students are able to concentrate on their assignments and think more clearly when taking tests. Since not all students are capable of waking up early and eating breakfast at home, the school providing breakfast for the students would be an excellent idea.

Self-improvement good or bad?

August 18th, 2010

In order to become successful, individuals should strive to be extraordinary instead of choosing to remain as an ordinary person. Self-improvement is a critical factor for individuals in all aspects of life. People want to become a better loving spouse or parent, a more caring teacher or a mother, and desire to become more efficient workers in the workplace. There is always room for self-improvement, regardless of whether one is a recovering drug addict or a CEO of a company.
