Are past influences evitable?January 6th, 2008
With various fields of endeavour like politics , natural sciences and social becoming inundated with large amounts of newly generated knowledge and also with increasing demand of exploration in existing as well as in newer unexplored domains, the issue of effact of past development on further discovery has become very important. On one hand, as the issue states, the possibility of future developement without past developement seems impossible. However , I feel that there is a fine line of difference between "ground knowledge" in a subject and between past developements and hence I feel that though learning of basic principles is very important and cannot be avoided , it may be possible to start a new line of developement based on one's familiarity and on domain without influence of past developements.

The issue presented can be broken into two parts : 1) enunciating history always involves some sort of subjectivity and personalized interpretation of accounts and 2) all historians are storytellers. Though I accede to the first point about subjectivity of history , delegating history to story telling , which can be defined as "inventive or made up account of events" is objectionable and I justify myself below.
