Number of cars
A thought-provoking current issue concerns number of cars in the future. Some believe that more and more cars will be used. It is therefore timely to discuss the validity of this perspective. For the following reasons, I believe that there will be fewer cars in use in twenty years. Firstly, new technology will develop more useful alternatives to cars; secondly, environmental problems will restrict the use of cars.
Firstly, many engineers and researchers are trying to develop new technology.
Technology for public transportation is getting better every day. It is becoming more convenient and the rail systems are expanding to cover more area. Also, driverless trains and buses will reduce costs and become cheaper to use, leading to increased use. As such, cars will be replaced by such technology.
For instance, since the train network has developed in Japan, the number of vehicles sold is decreasing. The sales volume for the year before last year was one million units, but last year it was 900,000 units. According to the announcement by the Government of Japan, there is a possibility that the number of vehicles sold will decrease by half in the next ten years.
Secondly, many concerns about environmental problems constrain cars in use.
In modern times, global warming is developing with CO2 emitted by cars, and there is concern that in the near future, crises can be brought to mankind. This concern may work to limit the use of cars.
For example, recently, the Japanese government made a law from an environmental perspective that prohibit using certain harmful chemicals. And now The government is considering a bill that limits the use of vehicles emitting CO2 to a certain extent. Furthermore, statistics from the United Nations Environment Programme suggests that if we can reduce the number of cars used by 50%, we can delay the progress of global warming by 80%.
Those examples illustrate that cars in use might be restricted in the near future.
In conclusion, I concur that there will be fewer cars in use in twenty years because new technology will replace cars and the detrimental environmental impact of cars will restrict their use.
I hope that we can stop global warming by reducing the number of cars used.

I agree with the speaker that it is sometimes necessary, and even desirable, for political leaders to withhold information from the public. A contrary view would reveal a naiveté about the inherent nature of public politics, and about the sorts of compromises on the part of well-intentioned political leaders necessary in order to further the […]
