Now suppose you are a students, what should you pay attention to? There are maybe many things you must fix your eyes on, and grades are certainly one of them. Why? You know your level in the subjects according to your grades, and then try to raise the level. I take the position that grades do encourage students to learn.
Grades are the results of your papers and tests, and they tell you whether you are good enough. If you achieve a high grade in mathematics, for example, that means you are doing well at the present. Then you should keep your good grades by studying. But if you have a low grade in chemistry, for example, that means you may be relaxed and you should hurry up in order not to fall behind. Grades are just like alarms. They let you know how you should do in your study.
For another, grades are the critics from your teachers. Teachers want to know how the students do on your study now, and they give assignment and tests to them. They have to find some methods to let the results distinguished from different situations. Therefore, they give each of the students their scores. They praise the students who have high marks and encourage the students who do badly to study harder and get higher grades next time. This kind of critics can let the students be aware of what they should do in future. And they will try to change. I did get encouragement from the grades. When I was at high school, my English teachers gave me encouragement by grades. When I did not do well in the exam, it meant that I should study harder and if I got a good mark, the teacher would tell me that I should keep up studying. The continuous advice to me help me improve my English and finally won the first place in English study at my high school.
But, of course, grades are not the only one we must pay attention to. The level of study depends on many features, such as you ability to invent, to solve problems yourself and so on. However, it is certain that grades can encourage you to study.
Study is important, while grades are important. Teachers give encouragement to students via grades, and students accept advice from teachers by grades. Hence, grades are just like a silent bridge, connecting teachers with students silently.
