In the lecture, the professor makes a series of points that cast doubt on all the arguments presented in the reading texts about the advantages of offering the option of the four-day work week to the economy, employees, and companies.
For a start, the professor does not believe, contrary to the reading passage's notion, the four-day work week will not harm the companies' profits. He necessarily clarifies that it is very likely that new hires will charge the Capitals a bundle due to their training expenses and medical insurances, besides, more space and computers. He is probable that all these add ups will cut into the companies returns.
Additionally, the professor directly contradicts the reading statement about the certainty of the companies decision in compensating the fifth-day workload with hiring outsiders. Instead, he says that they would opt for cheaper alternatives as; letting the current employees work overtime. This will end up in unpleasant current job atmosphere. Finally, in sharp contrast to the reading's claim, the professor confirms that by choosing this option the employees will suffer some risks leading to the overall decrease in their quality of life. Sparingly, he explains that they will be more susceptible to lose their jobs, might also, passed over for promotions. Surely, he adds that companies, to ensure continuous coverage for their work schedules, will prefer the full-time personnel to occupy the managerial level than the part-time ones.
