TOEFL Essay Topic 153 - Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A zoo has no useful purpose. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer.
Needs of a zoo
In my opinion, I am for the idea that zoo is useful place for us. There are several reasons to support my opinion.
First of all, we can learn much about animals at a zoo. A zoo provides us much knowledge about animals, and we can deepen our recongnition about living creatures when we go to zoo. When I was a student of 13th grade, I was about to fail the biology class in my high school. Then, in order not to fail the class, I went to the zoo everyday in my neighborhood. I learned much about how animals perspire, what they eat to live, or so on. In the end, thanks for the zoo, I could avoid failing the class. This example clearly exemplifies my argument.
Second, we can preserve precious species at a zoo. Zoo has a purpose to preserve species which is going to be extinct. At a zoo in Sado island, My father saw Toki which is one of bird, and is in danger of extinction four years ago.
People may say that a zoo has only purposes to amuze its visiters. But, in several ways as I mentioned above, a zoo is also needed to fulfill the pragmatically purposes. So, in conclusion, I definitely agree with the idea that a zoo has very useful purposes.
