Luck versus hard work

Everyone is surely inclined to achieve success in their life. Whereas some people take the attitude that luck can afford to bring success; others, including myself, fully endorse the idea that success is mostly a matter of effort and hard work. I feel this way for two reasons which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, hard work could give anyone a sense of confidence. It does mean that when a person is hard working, they are confident about the results; they know what steps to take in order to succeed. Knowing this, they are highly likely to succeed. On the other hand, luck is unpredictable and temporary. There is no guarantee that luck ends up in success eventually. For instance, I remember that when I was in high school, the majority of my classmates used to do multiple choice exams by chance. They were pleased that they are lucky students. However, at the end of the semester, when they were required to take essay exams, they understood that there is no room for the chance to make them succeeded.
Furthermore, hardworking people seem quite cautious. They go ahead with plans to have long-term success in their life. Nevertheless, people who are in favor of luck take unreasonable risks which might lead to failing miserably. Take gambling, for example. If a person wins the game once by chance, s/he risks more money and valuable possessions on that game next time. However, it would be possible that luck does not work and they lose a fortune.
To some up, considering what has been discussed above, I strongly support the idea that hard work is the main quality one should be equipped with to succeed. To my mind, luck is a factor that has no effect on success. It would be only temporary. It also encourages people to take quite a lot of risks.
