There should be a lot of topics to talk about what changes the 21st century would be brought. I strongly believe that this century will bring us a revolution in the mind of possession. To describe why I insist so, I would like to use the following reasons and examples.
To begin, you do not have to own many staffs around you in the 21st century thanks to the development of the internet. The internet has changed our daily lives. You do not have to go to the supermarket every weekend to buy the grocery or food you eat weekdays. All you have to do is click the button sited in an e-commerce site. Then the foods will be brought to your home. This is followed by the weaken of needs for personal cars. And more, the movie theater would not be needed as long as you contradicted with the internet streaming service like Amazon prime, NetFlix, or something similar to them. The internet has changed the needs for transportation. And the needs for cars will be declined, I guess. Actually, there are many car sharing services that allow us to borrow the cars easily without buying the cars for individual home. Also, there are so many sharing services that let us use without possessing. An example of this is accommodation sharing service. You may hear the Air B and B that is the service connecting the person who wants to borrow a house for a short term to whom can rent whose house. Therefore the many things possessed will not be necessary to be owned.
In addition, the value of the ordinary people will be changed by the internet culture. The social networking services; Twitter, Facebook, and so on, are popular in many countries. All of them have the “Like!” button. Since you do not have to own many things, the valuable thing you admire will be changed. The positive response from the person connected by SNS is much more valuable for the internet-native people. You do not have to show off your luxury watch or dress. The thing which is admired by a lot of citizens will be your ability or talents that you are the only one to have. Many famous youtube movies are the ones made by the talented person who is enthusiastic about something. Thus, the mind of the citizens will be converted to more mentalistic one.
From the reasons I mentioned above, the fewer needs for owning the things and the change of mentalism will change the value of people totally, I believe.
