Some people contend that going to museums is the most effective way to learn about a country. Others argue that there are better ways to know about a country. If asked, both groups would provide compelling arguments to corroborate their assertions. For the following reasons, I am of the opinion that visiting museums is not always the best way to learn about a country. First, using the Internet is a more efficient way in learning about a country; second, what you can learn at museums could be biased.
Most importantly, if you want to learn something, you can learn many things more efficiently and effectively today on the Web. For example, when I was planning to visit Canada from Japan, I tried to gather as much information as possible about Canada beforehand. Therefore, I went online and searched several keywords, such as “Canada historyâ€, “Canada population†and “Canada languageâ€, to learn about Canada. Usually, one web site contains several links that jump to other sites with relevant topics. This enables me to explore several relevant topics on the Internet and deepen my knowledge. In a very short period of time, I was able to know many things about Canada. I could not have learned so quickly and deeply about Canada if I had gone to museums.
In addition, what is display in a museum tends to be biased by the curator or the gruop running the museum. One should not think there is one best way to learn about a country but should check various sources related to the country to get comprehensive understanding of the country. One day, I went to a museum in Canada about the history of first nations- native Canadians. There, I learned how firth nations settled in Canada in the past how they are persecuted in the history. On the other day, however, I saw different point of view about first nations in a book and a TV program. I realized there are many ways in interpreting history and recognized the importance of not relying on one source when you learn something. My experiense shows that museum is not always the best way to learn about a country.
It is ture museums are well organized and you can have some hands-on experience in learning something. However, you can learn somethig more efficiently and effectively about a country by using the Internet. Furthermore, museums not always present objective views. For the above reasons, my strong contention is that going to museums is not always the best way to learn about a country.
