university

Without a doubt, universities today play an important role in our society. There are many discussions on whether university educations should be free for everyone or not. I personally believe the government should pay for colleges and universities education because the benefits will overweight the costs.

First of all, universities are the center of technology innovations which will boost the economic growth. Many new technologies are invented by several universities, and it is important to attract as many students as possible to go universities to study. When I joined a reunion party of my high school last year, a high school friend of mine told me that he was working for a venture capital and made a lot of investments into tech start-ups founded by universities students. He said in Japan, my home country, there are less new inventions from universities than in the United States where many venture companies are founded in universities. Making universities education free would allow more students to study, which would eventually lead to more innovation coming out from universities. More innovations create more jobs, and more jobs would boost economic growth in the country.

Furthermore, for many people, university education is a essential phase to prepare for their future career. As Japan has been struggling with a long economic recession, more skillful employees are required. If university education is free for everyone, more people can gained professional skills, which help Japanese economy grow again. For example, more engineering major students can supply more skilled work force into the manufacturing sector. In addition, more business major students can play important roles in many enterprises.

In conclusion, even though there may be not so much direct merits to let students to study literature or history for free, I think it is essential to let more people to study in university to speed up the economic growth. Therefore, I am convinced that the government should pay for colleges and universities education.
