The author of the reading passage presents three possible theories that how Chaco Canyon were used. However, the professor casts doubt on this by disproving each theory.
The first theory mentioned by the reading passage is that it was used for resident. It is seems like the apartment building witch placed in New Mexico. Conversely, the professor negates this by asserting, â€œIf it was used for resident, there would be more fire places.â€ Because there were a few fireplaces, they can’t make meal so, he suggested that people were not living here. This is in contradiction to what is indicated in the reading passage.
The second hypothesis described by the reading passage is that people practiced this place to conserve their food. It was founded grain maize were very common and this sphere are very good to use as storage because there are no spoiling. On the contrary, the professor contradicts this by contending that there are any information about remains of crops. If it was storage, even small amount of remain must be left. This is an important point that was not considered by the author of the reading passage.
The third theory identified by the reading passage is that Chaco Canyon were ceremonial place. The spot that was created on the surface was used to discard the festive meals. The professor is in opposition to this and states that ceremonial place should have something special building or ornament such as big stone. However, it has not. This tis yet another example of how professor and the author of the reading passage contradict one another.
In conclusion, the main arguments put forth by the professor make the claims of the author of the reading passage more doubtful.
