The last years have seen an increasing rate of home-based jobs that has been permitted by the improvement of the digital connections. This trend hides some drawbacks that are becoming more and more evident. Disadvantages of working from home involve both employees and employers, in different ways.
These downsides can be related to aspects that are personal, professional and social.
From a personal point of view, an employee, working from home, does not have the possibility to interact with other colleagues as he could normally working in a office. In this way , he misses important occasions for sharing experiences or discuss solutions. Relationships at work give also, often, opportunities for establish friendships or simply for maintain friendly contacts even out of the working environment.
Professional aspects are also involved, as working at home avoids strict controls but is also difficult to measure and quantify. The advantage not to have a boss who supervises the performed load of work is often countered by poor opportunities of career and benefits.
From a social point of view, there are disadvantages linked with the lack of the necessity of leaving home for working. It can be convenient by a certain point of view, but it can cause unsociable habits and behaviors. The daily necessity of leaving home in the morning and dealing with ordinary necessities and tasks is part of our identity and the lack of this can be unsettling as time goes by.
In conclusion, the diffusion of home- working jobs involves problems that affects different areas and it can cause a worsening in human relationships, especially in a society that also tent to be disaggregated and fragmented.
