Some people may argue that studying a subject which will prepare us better for a job is more important. These may state that we can have a better career by using the knowledge obtained through this study. However, I personally believe that it is more important to study a subject which interests us for the following reasons.
First of all, if we study something interesting we can have high motivation to learn. My own experience supports this view. When I was a university student, I decided to take a class of sports law because I was interested in playing and watching sports and wanted to know about the law which protects athletes. Thanks to this interest I could concentrate on all classes and also I regularly ask questions to the professor. As a result, I could get the best grade in the class.
In addition, by studying a subject which interests us, rather than just aiming for what is related to our career, allows us to have a wider view. To give a personal example, these days, I studied accounting which is unrelated to my job, lawyer. Through studying it, I came to understand the financial situation of the companies and I could have a deep understanding of the background of the economic news. I'm sure that if I had not studied accounting, I cannot have a point of view as now.
Finally, studying a subject which is interesting and not related to our job can be helpful even for our career. For example, my father once told me that it was good for his career to study world history after graduated university. Since he works in a bank, it seemed to me that history is nothing to do with his job. However, he said that by studying it, he could have a better understanding of foreign cultures, and as a consequence, he could have better communication with the foreign clients.
In conclusion, for the reasons mentioned above, I strongly believe that studying an interesting subject for us is more important.
