Many people consider that telling the truth is always the most important thing in any relationship, but other do not. Although telling the truth is good for building relationship with others in most situations, I do not think it is always necessary to tell people the truth in any relationship for following reasons.
One reason is that sometimes the truth is harmful for the relationship. For instance, when I was an elementary school student, my grandfather cooked a dinner for me and my elder sister. He rarely cook meals and was not good at cooking. Furthermore, the dinner was too salty for children. He asked us how the dinner was. Before I started to talk, my sister told him that it was very good. I realized it was a lie but understood her intension. Sometimes not telling the truth is necessary for good relationship.
Another reason is that our believing "truth" sometimes turns to be a false afterward. For example, when someone is accused for committing and you told one of your friend that he or she should not believe the accused person. Afterward, the person is judged innocent. What you said may damage your relationship even though it appered to be a truth at that time.
In conclusion, I think telling the truth is not always the first proority for relationship with others even though it is good thing in most situations. The reasons are potentially harmful nature of the truth and uncertainity of the truth.
