Classes invovling participation and discussion are more effective
Education methodology always varies among different teachers. Some teachers pay more attention to lecturing while others contend that students’ participation in the class is more important. I tend to agree that classes with various forms of involvement and communication are more effective.
Firstly, classes involving group discussions, project debates and interaction with teachers and classmates will raise students’ attention and stimulate their interest, helping them to become active, critical thinkers, who are highly motivated and enjoy the learning process. When teachers dominate the class, the students of age 14-18 lose focus easily as they lack self-discipline in learning.
Furthermore, discussions create opportunities for students to practice and sharpen a number of skills, including the ability to articulate and defend positions, deliver public speeches, communicate and exhibit teamwork effectively. However, lecture class fails to cultivate students’ overall quality.
Last but not the least, discussion and participation enable students to probes for deeper analysis which by the way reinforce the absorption and memorizing of knowledge. All these mentioned alternative styles of teaching, together with an appropriate portion of teachers’ lecturing, will help students to grasp the knowledge faster and more thoroughly.
To conclude, I would suggest that teachers integrate various methods in their courses.
