What will you do if you win the lottery and become a millionaire? That is the kind of question you ask your friends for fun. Usually, my friends and colleagues will say that they’ll quit and resign their jobs. But is this what we are really going to do if it comes true? In my case, if I were lucky enough to win the lottery, I don’t think I will stop working because one’s job is not just for earning money. I have three reasons to support this idea.
Firstly, I think what you can earn from a company, is not just the money. You can also have great friends, colleagues, and guru for your life. For example, because of my job and my company, I have a quality time during the weekends and vacations. At this moment I live in a dorm with my colleagues, and during the weekends we go out and have fun. For the past few years, we have gone to hiking, did the barbeque, traveled to many places together, and so on. I don’t think I could have had that much fun if I hadn’t working. Also, I met my inspiration while I was working for my company, and he is my boss. Because of him, I am constantly motivated for working, and because of him, I’m trying to become a better man than I am right now. Therefore, meeting many people is one important aspect of working.
Secondly, the feeling of achievement that you can get from your job, is something that you cannot get from money. Through working you are going to experience lots of things, and those are usually not easy things. But the greater the adversity is, the greater feeling you will get from overcoming the adversity. That feeling will build your self-confidence, and it will make you appealing to other people. Also, through the job, you will feel that you are actually contributing to the society. In my case, I work as an engineer, and whenever I design something that had never existed before, I feel excitement and satisfaction, because I know through this new product the world will become a better place than it was before. That feeling is more important than earning money because we people are social animals, and if we are not doing any good for the community, we will feel less confident about ourselves and become less satisfied with our lives.
Thirdly, you will build a foundation for imparting wisdom to the next generation through the job, and it is really important because we humans always feel need to convey what we have acknowledged. Like I mentioned before, you are going to face plenty of adversities during work. But through that experience, you will learn valuable lessons. The importance of the grit, the importance of persistence, how to cope with others and so on. These lessons will come to handy not just for you, but also to your children and descendants.
So there you have it. Opportunity to meet many people, feeling of achievement and prepare yourself to impart wisdom to the next generation. I can’t pick which is the most important of these three, but I am pretty sure that these are more important than earning money. These are the reasons why I don’t coincide with the statement.
