Professor’s salary

GRE Essay Topic 813 - The following appeared in a report of the Committee on Faculty Promotions and Salaries at Elm City University. "During her 17 years as a professor of botany, Professor Thomas has proved herself to be well worth her annual salary of $50,000. Her classes are among the largest at the university, demonstrating her popularity among students. Moreover, the money she has brought to the university in research grants has exceeded her salary in each of the last two years. Therefore, in consideration of Professor Thomas' demonstrated teaching and research abilities, we recommend that she receive a $10,000 raise and a promotion to Department Chairperson; without such a raise and promotion, we fear that Professor Thomas will leave Elm City University for another college. " Discuss how well reasoned you find this argument.

Although it is consequent for a company to settle a particular plan of producing and selling, the predictions of Sartoran can be not reasonable enough for the market. Because their analyses are filled with invalid things, so, the reality may be different with their conclusions.

Firstly, the fact that their competitors refuse to offer a comparable product accomplishes nothing toward bolstering the recommendation that there are too many requirements in the market. These assumptions are absurd. The argument fails to rule out the possibility that this style of overcoats is outmoded, and only a few people are in favor of it. So, the conclusion that this kind of overcoats will be populated is invalid.

On the other hand, the reasoning that the increasing of clothing prices means selling the alpaca overcoats can be more profitable is open to doubt. Because there is an alternative explanation for the fact that the cause of the rising of clothing prices is we have to cost more money to product the clothes because the more expensive materials and the increasing of the workers salaries. So, if they product the overcoats, they cannot be get so much money as their imagination. Therefore, this decision aimed to improve the finical situation of the company can be misleading.

In my view, they may still suffer the problems of the shortage of the high-quality wool fabric. Although they find a new supplier of this thing, it does not mean that the provider can supply enough materials persistently. Maybe this kind of fabric is difficult to earn, the provider will send some fabric with many blemishes. The production of the company is relying on the provider. It is likely for them to lose money if they continued production of their alpaca overcoats in this condition.

So, in a nutshell, it is dangerous for the company to continue production of their alpaca overcoats. As far as I am concerned, the company is supposed do a survey about the markets in a great depth, and the leaders of the company have the responsibility to make connection with many other providers.
