Every organisation requires both types of employees i.e those who employees who have experience in their field and those employees who have just started their career. If I were an employer, I would pick employees that have no experience and work at low salary. This is because of the following reasons.
First, any employee’s salary adds to the fixed cost of the organisation. Since the profit one makes equals revenue minus fixed cost and variable cost, the lower the fixed cost will be the higher the profit the organisation will make. Since most of the organisation’s aim for a long term is becoming a brand, capturing the market and increasing its share values, having a higher profit margin would surely help cut off the competition and expand as a brand. For example, many start ups make use of interns and new employees to do most of their tasks as they are full of energy and have the ability to learn very quickly. This, in turn, reduces the work pressure on the higher management.
Second, an employee who is inexperienced might add some new insight in the workplace. This is a common occurring that people without experience may sometimes provide such innovative methods to solve a problem, that one with the old mindset can’t even think of. This is very helpful in scenarios where the problem is being deadlocked for many years and none of the employees is able to solve it. In those scenarios, getting fresh eyes in the workplace might just work.
Thus, all in all, I would prefer someone less experienced and one who takes less salary over an experienced worker for the above-mentioned reasons.
