Two major sources of our knowledge

Experience and books are two major sources of our knowledge. it is doubtless that both of them are necessary. However, some people value experience more, while the others argue that books give them more knowledge than expreience. Then, I agree with the latter position. In other words, I think that books are more valuable and important source of knowledge. I have three reasons.

First, we can acquire broader knowledge from reading books than from experience. If you get knowledge only by experience, you can learn only what you experience. It means that you cannot know anything you do not experience. It narrows your perspective. However, if you get knowledge from books, you can learn a lot of things which you never experience. Learning history is a good example. History books tell us many incidents and causes in the past. We cannot actually experience those things. However, we can draw many teachings from those past incidents, and it helps widen our knowledge and perspective.

Second, by reading books we can be prepared before we face the situation for which we need certain knowledge. For example, when you go fishing for the first time, if you read some books about fishing and get some information about it beforehand, you can prepare for it well. However, if you do not get any information beforehand, you certainly face many difficulties.

Finally, it is true that knowledge gained from experience has useful than knowledge from books in some aspects. For example, the former might be more practical. However, if you have knowledge from books when you experience, you can maximize the strong point of experience.

In conclusion, I think knowledge gained from books are more important than knowledge gained from experience for three reasons explained above.
