Different people have different ideas from different perspectives about the role of the games in their lives. Some people claims it's essential part for adult to enjoy. Others argues games is less necessary for adults. I disagree with the point that games are as important for adults as they are for children foe the following three reasons.
First, though games help children develop mentally and intellectually, adults have already finished the phase of these types of development. When I was a child, I used to be addicted with TV games and spent plenty of times concentrating on playing TV games. In hindsight, this experience provided me with many opportunities of development such as increasing vocabulary and how to communicate with virtual people correctly. However, as an adult, I don't play these games anymore because I know I can learn nothing from them and it's just waste of times. adults are too developed to learn something from games, therefore, they need to seek other ways to learn or develop their skills.
Second, I agree that games are very important tool for children to develop their interpersonal skills even though this can't to be applied to adult cases. While children make friends with their classmates through online game connections and foster their communication skills, adults uses other ways such as SNS and email to build up network of friends and acquaintances and stay connected with them. So, adults don't need games as effective tools communication anymore.
Third, most adults have stereotype that games are too primitive for adult to enjoy. This leads to the idea that adults spending a lot of their time playing games are immature. For example, when I work with many coworkers, some are absorbed in games too much and I hesitate to speak with them because I think they are more interested in games than in real face to face communication or I shouldn't interrupt them. As a result, they may lose some important chances in their career because they are perceived as not mature enough even if they are developed enough as people who don't play games at all.
To put it in a nutshell, I conclude that games are not essential part for adults anymore since games never help adults development and can result in less communication chance and losing their important chance in their career due to specific stereotype.
