Things made by machine
We live in a consumeristic society, where everything is disposable. People now, with the incredible life speed in the cities, buy a lot of useless things. Clearly, also the industries have changed their ways of producing the dailies consumer goods, using machines instead of people, producing faster but with a lower quality. At these conditions, I prefer items made by hand, especially clothes, for some reasons, like the quality, the destination of my money, and the peculiarity of the object.
Object made by machines are surely perfect: unbelievable symmetry, perfect seams ( in case of clothes ), and uniform color. This seems great, but has a cost: the quality of the material. In fact, often, the industries that uses machines, produce great objects, that looks beautiful, but when you use their object, the life of them is very short. This happens because the materials used are very cheaper to maximize the earnings, and this led you to go another time to the shop, and buy the same object. In contrast, an handmade object is not perfect, but will be durable: it costs more, but you don’t need to buy it back another time!
Another important reason, is the destination of my money. Every time that I pay something, I think “Where this money will arrive?”. It’s obvious that buying something made from an industry, will enrich some millionaire somewhere in the world. I prefer buy something of handmade because I’m sure my money is going to a family, maybe in difficulty, and I’m helping them. This make me feel very proud of what I am doing.
The last reason, that makes me an handmade lover, is that there aren’t, in the world, two objects identical. In fact, the machines made a lot of objects, all identical, while an handmade object can’t be identic to another. This means that, for example, your jacket is unique in the world, and no one can wear the same jacket. It will not be perfect, but surely original.
In conclusion, I can affirm that an object made by hand is often better than one made by machine. Is surely more expensive, but has definitely a superior quality, that let you save some money in the future.
