TOEFL Essay Topic 160 - When people need to complain about a product or poor service, some prefer to complain in writing and others prefer to complain in person. Which way do you prefer? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.
Complain in writing or in person
Nowadays, customer complaints are on the increase regarding the low quality products and poor services that are offered. To some people, written complaints are much preferable to verbal complaints. In the same way, I might as well prefer to write a complaint letter. My essay will outline three main reasons.
In the first place, to my way of thinking, it would be an example of talking the talk versus walking the walk situation. By this, I mean to make your words heard, you had better write them. Let me give the example of employee complaints in my work place. They complained bitterly that they had not been paid. They talked the employer into paying them back. However, their attempts were failed, mostly because he would forget any expression of dissatisfaction he had listened.
In the second place, you can make your complaint legal by writing an official letter which is signed by a large number of complainants. There is no doubt that legal words written on a piece of paper could leave the administrators with a great impression; also they could serve as a latter proof in court.
Last but not least, in most cases the company you purchased a product from might not have live representatives available in your neighborhood.
Therefore, what avoids going on an unnecessary long trip could be writing a letter to the manufacturer. For instance, if you complain of FedEx services, writing a letter with complaints seems to be easier than going to Arkansas and talking to the managers.
To wrap it up, I prefer to complain as less as possible, but in the cases which I have to do, a written form of complaining would be my preference. That is because a formal complaint letter sounds to be impressive, legal and simple enough.
