In Japan, where I currently live, some people say that countryside is suitable to grow children up since they believe that children can grow in natural environment that is good for health. However, I personally think that it is better for children to grow up in a big city than in the countryside for the following reasons.
The strongest argument in favor of a big city is the issue of the culture. In a big city, such as Tokyo and New York, there are a lot of institutions that demonstrate culture. To give an example, when I was growing up, I was in the countryside with my parents. Although I enjoyed the life there, it was difficult to see beautiful pictures since the province was too poor to construct museum. When I entered the junior high school, our family moved to a big city, Tokyo. In Tokyo, there were a lot of cultural stimulation. If I was free, I often visited museum and looked at paintings and sculptures created by famous artists. In addition, I sometimes watched baseball games in Tokyo baseball park, which can hold more than thirty thousand people. These events intensively stimulated my sense of culture, and now I am more interested in cultural events and that make my life more comfortable. This example shows that a big city stimulates people’s sense of culture and makes their lives more enjoyable.
In addition to the culture, there is also an issue of education. Most of all the top schools are located in a big city. For example, the University of Tokyo is located in Tokyo, since it is beneficial for university to invite good students and professors. This trends are not only for the universities but also other institutions. As a result, in a rural area, children can have relatively low level education. I mentioned that I was in a countryside when I was growing up. Then, I was one of the most intelligent students in my elementary school and I believed that I was enough intelligent in my age. However, I moved to a big city and started studying in my junior high school, I soon realized that other students are more educated. This was because in Tokyo, most parents believed that better education would provide their children with better lives, and they spent extra money for their children. In addition, there were a lot of education system in Tokyo, such as private teachers that were so popular in my junior high school. If I had stayed in a rural area, I would not have a opportunities to study hard since I would not realize that I was in the secondary position. This example demonstrates that because of the issue of education, children should grow up in a big city.
In conclusion, I definitely believe that it is better for children to grow up in a big city than in the countryside since children can enjoy culture and education in a big city.
