In the topic above the author states and asserts that the Employees of the company should not be given the right to evaluate their Supervisor . The support he gives in his argument is that these employees do not have enough knowledge and basis for judging the supervisor's performance . The topic is quite controversial but interesting one. Just as any topic this too have its pros and cons . I will try to evaluate both sides of the statement and conclude on the basis of it .
First of all lets take the designation a Supervisor holds for the company A supervisor is the person who supervises and have a control on the works and performances of the employees. He is also responsible to target at the set target and work towards it . If we try to be in his shoes , this obviously is not a small job. It requires lots of hard work , patience , technical knowledge along with the ability to communicate effectively and get the work done.What will happen if the employee is given the power to evaluate the supervisor performance . I think it will create a chaos in the whole system of the company. Imagine a student is given the power to evaluate a professor. will He be capable enough to judge the professor on the basis of his limited outlook and experience definately not . Lets take the example in more broader scale . Suppose the employees of the Apple company are to evaluate the performance of its vissionary founder Steve job . Are they really worth of doing it . Definately not .
A supervisor has gained the position only because hes worth of it . The worth can be measured on the scale of his experience , his vision towards the company success , his decision making quality , his handling things at the best. Will it be a justice to him and his position if the employees are given the power to judge his performance . I don't think so. It is well said that
" Along with the power comes lots of responsiblity".
Who is responsible for the results of a venture ,It is the head who has to . He has to sometimes get strict for the benefit of the company . What if the employees takes his strict atttitude personaly. Definately his intentions are not personal yet people may misinterpret it and judge that the person is not right to be in the position of being a supervisor . Won't it be a injustice to him. Definately it will be.
I still remember the time when I was in school. We use to have our english teacher who use to to be very strict in her attitude . She use to take regular class tests and even repeat them for those who didn't do well . Most of the student did not use to favour her and always had complains about her . But surprisingly the result of the class in the subject english was 80 percent on average. Was it that teacher had some personal intentions for being strict. No, it was her vision for her class to reach the best grades in the class. There are millions of examples around where the supervisors are often faced with critism from the staff. Which is totally unfair on his behalf.
Now lets try to assume the position of employees who have to always listen and obey there heads. They may have to some times face unneccessary frustrations of the supervisor . Or lets assume a supervisor who is not at all responsible at work and puts all the burden to his team. In that case the employees do needs some way so that can put forth there view about their head to the key executives of the company.They are justified in their own way.
Last but not the least I would try to say that certainly a supervisor plays an important role for success of company and growth of the team as well but he being judged by his team who are not that experienced will be an unfair treatment to his role. the better way is always to take a feed back for the eomployees . They have freedom of expression and they can express their views and choice but the evaluation of performance definately goes to the hand of the key executives rather than the employees.Read more
