The reading passage outlines that there are numerous merits for doctors to adopt electronic medical record rather than traditional paper-based record keeping, which directly controverts what the professor reckons that it is uncertain to use this way. Compared with the points presented in the article, the lecturer considers them unconvincing and refutes them one by one.
Initially, based on the essay, electronic medical records can decrease the costs and save money. Nevertheless, the speaker objects to the statement, claiming that most doctors still keep the paper records as an emergency backup, so they still need to pay money for the paper-based record keeping.
Subsequently, in accordance with the reading proportion, unlike recording by handwriting which will make some mistakes, using electronic medical record will reduce the chances of medical errors. Yet, the announcer states that doctors still use handwriting to record information for their patients. If the staff will enter the information to the electronic system, they also need to look at their paper to record. Thus, it cannot reduce the probability of the errors.
Eventually, in light of the reading paragraphs, it is good for researchers to research with the electronic medical records of countless data from patients. However, the listening part reveals there are some laws to protect citizen’s privacy. Therefore, it is very hard for researchers to obtain numerous data from patients whose information in the electronic system. So, if they want to get it, they need to get the patient’s permission.
