TOEFL Essay Topic 1078 - Do you agree or disagree with the following statement: in twenty years there will be fewer cars on the road than there are today.
In Japan, where I live, there are a lot of companies that produce cars, such as TOYOTA, HONDA, NISSAN, and the car industry is very important for the Japanese economy. I am of the opinion that in twenty years there will be fewer cars on the road than there are today. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, the people who once needed cars because they lived in the countryside will move to the urban area. My own experience is a compelling example of this. My family lived in the countryside when I was a child. Cars were essential for us there because there were few railroads and it took fifty minutes to go to the closest station to my house by walk. However, this was inconvenient for the local residents, so they began to leave there. As the population of the rural area got declined, businesses moved to cities. My family also moved to a city because the company my father worked for built a new office in the city. In the city, there were a lot of options to transport and the fee for a parking lot was very expensive, we sold our car. This example shows that as people move to cities, they no longer need cars because the ways of transportation are fruitful in the urban area.
Secondly, the price of the car is increasing, which prevent people from buying cars. The government will not allow so many people to use cars because they pollute the air and the environment. When I was a child, the government did not think the problems of the environment were serious problems. However, the disorder of the climate began to hurt our lives, which makes people notice that we have to stop releasing harmful things. For instance, the Japanese government is strict about having car companies make cars which discharge clean gasses. This rule makes the car prices higher than they were. People do not want to buy cars at a high price, so they tend to give up owning their own cars. Studies show that currently, young people possess fewer cars than the elder people did.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that in twenty years fewer people have cars than they do. This is because as the people move to cities, they do not have to own cars because of the convenient options in cities, and because the cars which are sold at a high price because they are kind to the environment are unpopular.

The issue of whether technology has made the world a better place to live is a complex one, since it involves a conflict of perspectives between different people. I remember quite well when I first saw an airplane, I was really impressed. How big and different it was! It could also fly! It looked like a bird but it wasn’t! Years passed and I had the chance to fly with airplanes several times and enjoy it. High-tech airplanes carry their passengers all over […]
