"Two years ago, City L was listed 14th in an annual survey that ranks cities according to the quality of life that can be enjoyed by those living in them. This information will enable people who are moving to the state in which City L is located to confidently identify one place, at least, where schools are good, housing is affordable, people are friendly, the environment is safe, and the arts flourish." Discuss how well reasoned . . . Etc.
analysis of an arguement
The article says about a survey of quality of life of a city L and ensures the people, moving in that city, about quality of life. But this article has some flaws and unconvincing for several reasons. The basis of survey is not mentioned so how reliable is this survey ? We don’t know. Then if survey is reliable, who were included in this survey? and survey was conducted two years before so what is the condition of city in present? So the survey is unreasonable.
When people move to a new city, first of all they want to know about the job opportunities but nothing is said about this in this survey. What type of industries are located in that city? What kinds of financial services are available in that city? The employment rate is not mentioned in the article. If everything is good but unemployment rate is higher then no one would like to move in that city.
Then people care about cost of living. According to this survey the housing is affordable but the cost of food and clothing is not clear. In some cities the housing is affordable but the cost of other things very high .So for an average person it becomes impossible to live in the city like this.Besides this nothing is said about crime rate because whenever we moved to a new city my father always paid attention to this.
Schools are good but what is the cost of education. Sometimes the fee and other cost are so high that only rich people can afford those prices. What is about universities and other educational institutions? Survey is not detailed so it doesn’t help the people who are moving to this city.
To coclude, the survey says nothing about job opportunities, cost of living and the cost of education. If the article had included, it could have been more reliable and helpful.
