People are usually requested to respect their leader and follow the leader's instruction. What is then the definition of a leader? Views differ greatly when it comes to the issue of whether people are likely to accept as a leader only someone who has demonstrated an ability to perform the same tasks that he or she expects others perform. Some people agree with this opinion, while others disagree. As far as I am concerned, I am of the opinion that people are more likely to accept as a leader who has the ability to control everything, for two reasons: the capability to solve the ongoing problems and the responsibility for everyone.
The main reason affecting my position is that the leader should pay more attention to solve a problem. Take my leader, Amy, for example. Amy is good at controlling the progress of a project. Although she may not be good at every task she asks us to do, she knows who could be the best person to complete the task. Thus, she always could have the projects done in the most efficient way. Such an example shows that to be a leader, it is more crucial to get things done, not whether you have the ability of completing the tasks you ask others to do.
Another reason influencing my point of view is that people prefer to respect those leaders who are responsible for their team members. For instance, my friend, Tom, has a team working for him for almost five years. The reason why him team members always follow his instruction is that they know that no matter what happened, Tome will always take the responsibility and will not leave them. Therefore, it is clear that a responsible person would be deemed more as a leader.
Admittedly, sometime it is argued that some leaders usually instruct other people to do a difficult task while at the same time these leaders chose another easy jobs to do. However, most of the time, these leaders are just trying to strengthen the abilities of their team members. Hence, it is not actually a sound standard to evaluate who should be the leader and who should not.
Since a leader should possess many skills to persuade the followers to go with his or her instructions, it is not necessarily for him or her to have the ability to perform the same tasks that he or she expects others perform. Of course, there may be other perspectives that I neglected to take into account. Nevertheless, I feel that, from the above-mentioned, my position is built on solid foundation.Read more
