From the beginning of human history, relationship is the foundation of our society. We live and interact with each other. Along the years, we developed some rules/ education to ensure that peace or good relationship is maintained among us. Courtesy is a step further in the relationship which clearly shows a part of empathy. Empathy is not naturally given; this is something we need to work on it.
