Some people think that they can study by themselves and competing with other based on the grades is not meaningless. However, in my opinion, I agree with the opinion that grades are helpful for students to learn. I feel this way for two reasons, which I will explore in the following essay.
To begin with, grade is a good and objective way to measure our knowledge. Without the grade, we cannot judge our current knowledge is on the appropriate process or not. My own experience shows this concept. When I was a junior high school student, I took an English class. Before studying, I did not know my English level at that time. In the lesson, there are 30 students and we all together studied an intro level of English such as intonation, expression, and pronunciation. After one semester, I got grade A for the class and I realized that my English was better than others. Moreover, I kept grade A for the rest of my school during my junior high school and I was chosen as exchange students of my school. If there had not been grade, I would not have realized my English skill and missed an opportunity for studying abroad. This illustrates that grades is useful to measure the level of the knowledge and becomes an objective tool.
Secondly, students study hard if there are examinations. Without a doubt, people are encouraged to study with diligence and care if they are told that those who get below grade C would fail to pass the exam. For example, when I was a university student, I had a final exam on March. However, I was a very busy student at that time for club activities and part time job and there were only a limited of time for preparing the examination. At the same time, that final test was important for me because the test was for required course and if I failed I would not graduate from the school. I needed at least grade B for that test. I studied with my all diligence and care and as a result of my hard work I got grade A and graduated from the school. This demonstrates that grades stimulate students to study hard. Without the test, I would not have been able to graduate from the school on that year.
In conclusion, the grade helps students learn because the grade is the objective way of measuring the knowledge and because the grade encourages students to study hard.Read more
